Hey, there!

I’m Haley, a 25-year-old creative who has a thing for telling stories.

I like to tell people that I officially found my passion for creative media my senior year of high school as an editor for the yearbook staff (to all the people I hounded for yearbook sales, I promise that when you’re feeling all nostalgic in 20 years, you’ll thank me). But if we’re being honest, my love for art + visuals dates way back. I was always THAT girl in high school, you know, the one who was self-employed at her own custom t-shirt business and directed videos for pharmacy tech projects instead of writing research papers.

So during my college orientation, I ditched my pre-nursing major declaration (and said peace out to future job security), switched to Mass Communication, and never looked back. The world may have left the phrase YOLO behind in 2012, but it was and still is a well-used term in my vocabulary. By the way, Drake if you’re reading this, 100% still in love with you.

Anyway, I ended up choosing the Public Relations/Advertising route for the opportunity to connect businesses + organizations to their audiences in a real and personable way. Fast forward into my major classes and cue the mid-educational career crisis. Comparing TV ratings to find the most effective commercial placement? Boring. Convincing people why they should buy the “latest and greatest” product? Eh, not for me.

But storytelling? Now that was something I could get behind.

In class, I found myself only taking an interest in PR + ad campaigns that mattered. Creating a social media strategy for a non-profit? Say less. Photo series to raise awareness about important world issues? Here. For. It. My appreciation for meaningful media stems from its ability to foster unity -- to rally people together around purpose-driven causes, to support each other, and to highlight all of the uniqueness that makes a community special.

I love people. I love creating. My passion lies within the beautiful collision of the two. That’s where the stories are, where the visuals are, where the poems are. Those are the things I chase.

In doing so, I get to do what I think is one of the coolest things — freezing and wrapping up moments. I’ve come to believe these moments make up fragments of a grand story that reaches far beyond ourselves.

At the moment, storytelling for me looks like capturing photos, writing, and compiling the occasional travel video. And as for right now, I’m just happy to be here — here in a season of creating, of deep-rooted community, and in a place that is blanketed within the pines.
